Why Green Point specifies differently

Built for the glass, the wind and the body corporate

Green Point rebuilt itself hard around the 2010 World Cup and the V&A Marina developments that followed, and the newer stock shows it: floor-to-ceiling glazing on the Stadium-facing and marina-facing elevations, open-plan living rooms with almost no wall to hang a curtain rail from, and balconies that catch the wind straight off Table Bay. That's a different brief to a suburban house — the glass is bigger, the exposure is harsher, and there's usually a building manager to work around before a consultant even reaches your door.

Most of what we fit here goes into sectional-title apartments and penthouses, not free-standing houses, which brings its own rules: body corporates typically specify a uniform blind backing colour visible from outside, and lift bookings or access arrangements need confirming before the measure visit. We build both into the process rather than treating them as surprises on install day.

01

Floor-to-ceiling glass, newer stock

Stadium-era and marina blocks carry big glazing with almost no wall for a curtain rail — sunscreen and blockout roller combinations do the real work here.

02

The south-easter, funnelled between towers

Exterior products — awnings, zip screens, shutters — get a wind-rated spec and, ideally, a sensor that retracts them before a proper Cape Doctor blow.

03

Salt air off the Atlantic and the marina

Powder-coated aluminium and sealed cassettes as standard on anything facing the promenade — cheap steel hardware seizes within a season or two up here.

04

Density, and body corporate colour rules

Stacked apartments mean overlook from the block across the road, and most schemes specify a uniform blind backing colour — we check both before we quote.

02

Free in-home measure

A consultant visits with fabric and slat samples, works around your building's access and lift booking rules, and measures every window precisely.

03

Written quote

A per-window quote, options itemised, so you can see exactly what you're paying for before you commit to anything.

Questions

Before you book the measure

Do you handle building access and body corporate rules, or is that on me?
We handle it. Most Green Point schemes need a lift booking and a building manager's sign-off before we can measure or install, and many specify a uniform blind backing colour visible from outside — we confirm both with your body corporate or managing agent before we quote.
Will blinds and exterior shading actually cope with the wind and salt air here?
That's exactly what we spec for. Powder-coated aluminium and sealed cassettes as standard on anything facing the promenade or marina, and exterior products like awnings and zip screens get a wind-rated fitting with a sensor recommended so they retract automatically before a south-easter blow.
Are the cords and chains safe for small children?
Chain and cord tensioners that anchor the loop to the wall are fitted as standard practice. For nurseries and kids' rooms we'll talk you through wand-tilt, cordless and motorised options — motorisation removes cords and chains entirely.
Do you cover apartments and penthouses, or mostly houses?
Mostly apartments and penthouses — that's most of Green Point. We're used to lift bookings and building access rules, and we plan the visit around them rather than around a free-standing driveway.
How long from quote to fitted blinds?
Everything is made to order once you approve your written quote. Your consultant will confirm the exact lead time for your fabrics and sizes at that point, rather than quoting a generic number that may not apply to your job.
Is the free measure really free, with no obligation?
Yes. The in-home measure and the written per-window quote that follows are both free. You're welcome to take the quote away and think it over.
